Transportation of animals
We inform you that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey has adopted a directive that restricts the importation of all types of live animals into the Republic.
Transportation of animals, birds, guide dogs and task dogs on flights is carried out only:
- in economic class
- as cabin baggage (hand luggage)
- with legally capable passenger
Room pets/birds and task dogs can not be carried in the baggage or cargo compartments.

Pets and birds listed below are accepted for carriage:
Carrier will not accept for carriage:
- deceased animals.
Pets, room birds, guide dogs, and task dogs are not accepted for carriage unless having the Carrier’s confirmed consent.
Passenger shall inform the Carrier or its Agent on the intention to carry a pet (bird) or guide dog or task dog, when booking or purchasing the Ticket, yet in no case later than in 24 hours prior to departure.
Once the carrier confirms the service, the passenger shall have the right to pay for the service any time, but no later than 2 hours prior to the departure.
When carrying a pet, a passenger has to apply to the check-in counter at least 2 hours prior to the departure to pay for the service and to pass the veterinary control.
If the service is not paid 2 hour prior to the departure, it shall be considered as cancelled. In such case the passenger may address to a representative of the carrier who has the right to make a decision on carrying a pet onboard. The passenger shall have an opportunity to pay for the service any time prior to the departure.
The Carrier shall have the right to deny carriage to the passenger with an animal, if the animal’s carriage is not booked, confirmed and paid.
At the check-in a passenger must provide all necessary documents required by the Russian law, international agreements and the law of the countries of departure, arrival or transit.
Passengers may find the requirements to entry of animals to the country of destination on the official web-site of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision. You may also apply to the veterinary control point at the airport.
At the check-in passengers must provide a confirmation of a veterinarian or the veterinary control point that the animal is healthy, vaccinated and is eligible for transportation.
An animal without a rabies shot is not allowed for transportation. A rabies shot shall be done at least 20 days prior to the date of departure/arrival, unless the animal is vaccinated within the last 12 months.
Note. Such requirements may differ from country to country. Please specify the requirements in the consulate of the country in question when getting a visa.
Attention! It is FORBIDDEN to feed room pets (birds), task dogs or guide dogs during the check-in and flight.
Carrier accepts for carriage by an aircraft no more than:
- 4 cages with non-antagonistic pets or 2 cages with antagonistic pets;
- 2 or task dogs.
If antagonistic animals (dogs and cats) are accepted for carriage in the passenger compartment, they must be placed in different rows of seats.
Weight of a pet (room bird) or task dog, cage/container, and food for a flight is not included into the toll-free baggage allowances and shall be paid by Passenger on basis of the actual weight and Carrier’s fare in addition to other baggage of such Passenger.
Carrier accepts room pets (birds) for carriage, Passenger bears all related responsibilities. Carrier is not responsible for traumas, diseases or death of animals or birds or for denied entrance or transit through any country or land.
IMPORTANT: Certain countries have specific rules for animal entrance. We recommend contact embassy or consulate of the country of departure/transit arrival in advance in order to clarify rules for export/transit/import of animals and birds.
Please note that if the veterinary documents are required to be in the language of the country of departure, the veterinary certificates must be in the language familiar to the certificating veterinarian. For instance, countries of the European Union have such requirement. As a rule, the information on veterinary requirements of countries of arrival is available in the representative offices of foreign countries in the Russian Federation, including the relevant official web-sites.
Guide dogs accompanying the Passengers with vision loss are carried in the cabin without containers, upon Carrier’s consent. No charge is due for their carriage.
Documents required for transportation:
- Passenger’s disability
- Passenger with task dog is a current officer of a canine department of federal authorities
- guide dog has been properly qualified to guide visually-impaired persons
- Veterinary certificates (and other documents, if necessary).
A guide dog or task dog shall wear a muzzle and be tied at Passenger’s legs.
Passengers with task dogs or guide dogs are placed onto certain seats determined for certain aircraft types.
Room pet (bird) shall be placed into a solid container/cage ensuring conveniences for the animal during transportation, enough air supply and a good lock. Container bottom shall be solid and leak-proof and covered with an absorbent material. Container/cage shall exclude spilling of the absorbent. Bird cages shall be covered with durable lightproof textile.
An animal shall stay within a closed container/cage for the entire onboard time (flight, taxiing, embarkation/disembarkation, etc.).
During a flight, container/cage with the Passenger’s pet/bird shall be placed under the seat in front of such Passenger.
Passengers with pets are prohibited from being placed in emergency exit area and location of emergency equipment.
Passengers carrying a pet/bird shall be assigned certain seats determined for each aircraft type.
