From 20 January 2026, children under 14 need an international passport to travel abroad from Russia.
This applies to countries with which Russia has a visa-free travel agreement: Abkhazia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, South Ossetia. Previously, a birth certificate with a proof of citizenship stamp was sufficient for entry into the said countries.

Children who departed Russia before 20 January 2026, using a birth certificate, are permitted to return with the same document.
Children 14 and older can still use their Russian internal passports to enter the said countries.

Important information!

Prior the departure with an international flight, please make sure:

  • that your signature appears inside the passport. In many countries, the lack of recorded personal signature is a violation of the immigration rules;
  • that there is machine-readable entry at the bottom of your passport key information page, which contains basic information about the owner of the document. If the machine-readable entry of the document contains no data or contains incomplete information about the owner of such passport, then the passport might be declared invalid, so in this case the passenger will be denied permission to cross the state border for the reason of impossibility to execute the automated identification of a person’s identity and personal data;
  • the demonstrated actual state of the passport as a document. If its wear condition is unsatisfactory, you may be denied the entry into your destination country. The unsatisfactory demonstrated actual state of the passport includes the following faults:
